Girls' Day 2026
On April 23, the Institute of Geosciences welcomed a group of female students for Girls’ Day and gave them a glimpse into the career of a professor in the geosciences.
The focus of the day was to provide insights into what everyday life as a professor looks like and to highlight the diversity of research in the geosciences. In three thematic sessions, the students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and explore different fields.
In the first session, they worked with rocks and minerals, examining samples and learning more about their properties. This was followed by a session on earthquake processes, where they were introduced to how earthquakes occur and how they can be measured.
The day concluded with a campus field trip in the area of geomorphology and geohazards, allowing the students to experience geological questions directly in the field.
In addition to the scientific content, the day also provided space for discussion. The students took the opportunity to ask questions about studying geosciences, pursuing a PhD, and career paths in academia.
The institute would like to thank all contributors for their commitment, as well as the participants for their great interest and curiosity.
