News Maustag 2025: Exploring with die Maus! On 3 the 3rd of October 2025, the Institute of Geosciences at Ruhr University Bochum opened its doors to young explorers for the first time as part of the nationwide event ‘Türen auf mit der Maus’ (Open Doors with the Mouse). With the motto ‘The mouse travels to the centre of the Earth’, children aged 6 to 12 were invited to take part in a varied hands-on workshop: at four stations, they could cast fossils, examine rocks under a magnifying glass, recreate layers of the Earth in cups and sift small minerals from sand. Guided by enthusiastic helpers, the children playfully discovered the world beneath our feet and were rewarded with a real geologist's certificate at the end. A big thank you goes to all visitors, volunteers and the student council, who ensured a great atmosphere with fresh waffles.
