Application 

Please submit your documents in the application portal of the RUB. A list of required documents can be found here.

The deadlines for the application are published on time on our website. Please note that our MSc program only offers a winter semester intake.

 

Language requirements

The MSc program Geosciences is taught in English and requires English on level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The following certificates are recognised: TOEFL 550 (written), 215 (computer-based), 79 (internet-based), or IELTS 6.0 or better, a German Abitur or comparable proof.

If your BSc education was in English, we also accept a statement about the medium of instruction. The document needs to be signed and stamped by your university. A self-declaration is not accepted.

 

Review and admission process

After we receive your application, we review the formal criteria of your application and your suitability for our MSc program "Geosciences". A list of our minimum admission requirements can be found here.

If your degree meets the equivalency criteria as well as our pre-requisites (including English language proficiency), you will receive admission to our program.

Please refrain from inquiring about your application status. These requests will not be processed.

 

Requirements for enrolment

In order to be eligible for enrolment, you need to participate in a mandatory counselling meeting. After admission letters are sent out, you will be invited to the online meeting via e-mail. In the meeting all further proceedings are discussed. If you cannot participate in the meeting, contact admission-gmg@rub.de.

 

I don’t get my VISA on time. What now?

If you do not get your VISA to start your studies on time for the lecture start in mid-October, you will have to apply again the next intake. Your name will be placed on the priority list of admissions. Late arrivals or deferment of the admission letter to the summer semester are generally not possible.

 

I enrolled and will arrive in Germany on time for my MSc studies. Where and how do I get started?

The RUBiss Team (RUB international student services) of the RUB International Office provides tours of the Campus, usually the week before lectures start, helps finding accommodations and supports you in all formal, social and study-related issues. Please reach out to rubiss@rub.de as early as possible to help get settled before the semester starts. More information can be found here. How do I get started with my course work?

Please make sure to register for all your courses on the e-Campus platform. You can check the deadlines in the course catalogue. Additionally, the digital study platform “Moodle” is used to provide course materials (exercises, literature, lectures).
