Dr. Thilo Bissort

Welcome (back) Dr. Thilo Bissbort

The Petrology and Geochemistry working group is happy to welcome back Dr Thilo Bissbort as a new research assistant.

Dr Thilo Bissbort is no stranger to the Institute of Geosciences: after completing his bachelor's and master's degrees and his doctorate at RUB, he conducted postdoctoral research here before moving to Munich for almost three years. There, he deepened his expertise in melts, magmas, lavas and glasses. With his new position, he is now returning to his research roots in Bochum.

His scientific focus is on the properties of melts and their role in the transport of energy and matter within the Earth and other planetary bodies. To do so, he will spend a lot of time in the working group's gas mixing- and high pressure laboratories, where he will produce melts and quench them to glasses in order to study their properties in detail.

Starting in the coming winter semester, Dr. Bissbort will also be active in teaching and passing on his expertise to students. He particularly appreciates Bochum's long tradition in petrology, which is supported by a strong research group, excellent facilities and well-equipped laboratories.

Welcome (back) Dr Thilo Bissbort!
