Fieldwork in Asteri, Greece: DAS measurements as part of the NEREIDS project

As part of the NEREIDS project, Dr. Gian Maria Bocchini and Dr. Marco Roth (RUB), Dr. Emanuele Bozzi (University of Pisa) installed a DAS interrogator at the Asteri dam.

Continuous ground motion data is collected via an underground fibre optic cable between Asteri and Valmatoura to monitor dynamic ground movement in a seismically active region near the Gulf of Corinth and the Gulf of Patras.

The NEREIDS project aims to develop a workflow for near-real-time detection and localisation of seismic events that integrates the advantages of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) and classical seismological networks.

The project is supported by Geo-INQUIRE and the Volkswagen Foundation and is a collaboration between Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Pisa. The principal investigator (P.I.) is Dr Gian Maria Bocchini.

Current updates and insights into the project work can be found in the NEREIDS project's LinkedIn group.
