Status Seminar Digital Geosystems 2025
On 25 and 26 September 2025, the status seminar ‘Digital Geosystems’ took place at the Ruhr University Bochum. The focus was on current research work and developments in virtual methods and digital tools for geoscientific applications in projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
After an introduction by Dr. Ulf Hünken (Projektträger Jülich) the project ‘Synthesis of numerical model approaches for the treatment of reservoirs in enhanced geothermal systems (SMART-EGS)’ was presented. M.Sc. Fikri Zain Karim, research assistant in Prof. Jörg Renner's working group, presented results from experimental data collection and analysis from the Bedretto underground laboratory (https://eaps.ethz.ch/en/research/associated-groups/bulgg.html).
The project ‘DIETER: Digitisation of mining structures using innovative sensor technology and artificial intelligence’, coordinated by Dr Thomas Heinze and Dr Wiebke Warner (Hydrogeochemistry and Hydrogeology, RUB), was presented by Dr Heinze and M.Sc. Florian Lam on the part of the RUB.
The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of the digital advancement of geoscientific research and networking within the BMFTR-funded project landscape, as well as the contribution of the RUB to this.
